Ecotoxicology & mariculture

The Opus Environmental Laboratories are uniquely equipped and operated by experienced and dedicated personnel. Offering a comprehensive range of marine and fresh water ecotoxicology and biodegradability studies, the facility has an abundant supply of high quality seawater.

Facilities include a large-scale seawater treatment system, laboratories, full size algal culture and four 'wet' rooms that can be organised according to projects in progress. Opus has a local supply of marine organisms and the expertise to cultivate various species of high quality algae and other marine organisms.

For many years the Opus laboratory has partnered with the offshore chemical industry to generate high quality regulatory data. The Environmental Laboratories offer a comprehensive range of marine toxicity, biodegradation and bioaccumulation studies, as required by the Harmonised Mandatory Control System (HMCS). Opus completes relevant HOCNF documentation and liaises with regulators on behalf of clients. All studies are conducted to current OSPAR/OECD/ISO method guidelines in accordance with the international codes of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

Our self-contained facilities and wealth of expertise offers a service extending beyond the requirements of pure testing. Clients enjoy a close dialogue with Opus personnel, who provide guidance before, during and after analytical work, to ensure client needs are fully realised.

Ecotoxicology
Our Ecotoxicology Laboratory provides the full range of marine aquatic toxicity, biodegradation and bioaccumulation studies.

HMCS
The HMCS aims to protect the marine environment by identifying and restricting the use of chemicals, in offshore oil and gas production, with the potential for causing an adverse environmental impact.
